Maintaining Truck Tyres

About Me

Maintaining Truck Tyres

Hello! My name is Domonic and this is my blog which is aimed at helping you to maintain the tyres on your truck. I recently bought my first truck so I could start my own haulage business. It is just me at the moment, but with a little luck, I am hoping to make enough money to invest in another truck and driver soon. When I started out, I didn't understand what I needed to do to maintain my truck tyres and as a result, one of them blew out when I was on the road. I managed to get a new tyre from the auto shop and the guy who works there gave me some great advice. I hope you like my blog.

Auto Repair: 3 Causes of Control Problems

The ability to control your car is important. Poor control increases the chance that you will be involved in an accident. If you notice that your car is pulling to one side as you drive, you need to take action right away to remedy the problem. If you continue to drive, even if you are lucky enough to maintain control of the car, it is likely that you will be causing damage to the transmission and wheels. Below is a guide which will help you to understand three common reasons that your car may be pulling to one side when you drive.

Stiff Power Steering

If your car is fitted with power steering, this should make it easier to control. However, if the hydraulic fluid in your steering system is low, you may find that the steering wheel feels still when you turn it. If you feel any resistance, you should have the power steering inspected by an auto mechanic.

Malfunctioning Shock Absorbers

As the name suggests, the shock absorbers on your car as designed to absorb the shocks and vibrations created when your wheels travel over uneven ground. As well as providing you will a more comfortable ride. Shock absorbers also help to reduce the load which is placed on each tyre. If you notice an increased level of vibration in your car, or if the ride suddenly feels very bumpy and uncomfortable, it is likely that one of the springs in the shock absorbers has failed. A fail shock absorber may make your car pull from side to side. An auto mechanic will be able to inspect your vehicle before repairing or replacing the shock absorbers.

Worn Tyres

The friction created by the road surface will gradually cause the rubber on your car tyres to wear away. Driving on hot asphalt during the summer can accelerate this process as it softens the rubber. If you have to drive off-road or on roads which have not been surfaced, you may find that the rocks and gravel also cause your tyres to wear at a quicker rate than normal. When your tyres become worn, they can sometimes cause the wheels to pull in one direction. At the first sign that this is occurring, you need to hold the steering wheel slightly turned to keep your car travelling in a straight line. You should take your car to an auto mechanic who will be able to fit new tyres.

If you have any concerns about your wheels, shock absorbers or steering, you should contact a mechanic today.
