Maintaining Truck Tyres

Hello! My name is Domonic and this is my blog which is aimed at helping you to maintain the tyres on your truck. I recently bought my first truck so I could start my own haulage business. It is just me at the moment, but with a little luck, I am hoping to make enough money to invest in another truck and driver soon. When I started out, I didn't understand what I needed to do to maintain my truck tyres and as a result, one of them blew out when I was on the road. I managed to get a new tyre from the auto shop and the guy who works there gave me some great advice. I hope you like my blog.

Dangers of Bald Tyres: Why You Must Replace Them Immediately

Bald tyres have little to no tread left and are a leading cause of road accidents. For your safety and, of course, the safety of other road users, ensure that you replace your tyres as soon as you notice that they have become worn out or are balding.

Why are bald tyres so dangerous? Here are some of the reasons and the safety risks you expose yourself to when you drive on bald car tyres.

Loss of Control and Hydroplaning

When the treads on your car tyres wear out, the tyres will not grip the road as well. This can lead to a loss of control on an icy or snowy road. This, of course, comes with an increased risk of getting into an accident, as your car will easily spin out on the ice or snow.

Hydroplaning occurs in rainy weather. The shallow grooves on bald car tyres are not as effective at directing away the layer of water that gets between the road and the tyre. This layer of water will stand in the way of the tyre maintaining a firm grip on the road, which, again, increases the risk of losing control of your car and getting into an accident.

Poor Braking Efficiency

Without proper and sufficient traction, your car's braking efficiency will become severely compromised. This, coupled with the inability to properly control your car, as outlined above, only puts you at a significantly higher risk of getting into a road accident. Bald car tyres may skid during sudden stops, which is quite dangerous.

Increased Risk of Blowouts

As you drive around, the friction between your car tyres and the road surface will create some friction, which, in turn, generates heat. The treads on your tyres help to cool down the tyres by facilitating the flow of air between the grooves.

In the absence of enough tread, as in bald tyres, the tyres will not cool off as well, and the heat build-up may result in a blowout.

Increased Susceptibility to Punctures

While treads may not protect your tyres from all types of punctures, they certainly do help. You are more likely to avoid punctures when you drive over any sharp object with sufficient tread compared to bald tyres. Punctures and flat tyres are a danger to your road safety.

A visual inspection of your car tyres should tell you when the treads are wearing away. For the safety reasons highlighted and more ensure that you replace your bald tyres immediately.
